Drug nap: It is a drug-induced light sleep--sometimes awake enough to follow commands--to allow dr to perform a procedure that would otherwise cause anxiety or pain. Dislocation ; fracture reduction as examples. It is not as "deep" as general anesthesia, like in an operating room.

For many procedures: Conscious sedation is administered for many procedures to reduce the discomfort and anxiety patients may experience. It differs from general anesthesia in that spontaneous respiration and airway reflexes are maintained and is usually accomplished with short acting drugs.
