Dry eye: The tear glands of the eye are modulated by androgens, i.e. Male hormones. Hormone replacement therapy (estrogen) suppresses the natural estrogen production and the small amount converted to androgens. Then the eyes get drier. Artificial tears are recommended. Discontinuation of the hrt or contact lenses may be needed. Glasses will reduce evaporative dryness too.
