Not typically: Primary Dysmenorrhoea (painful periods) is fairly common and usually starts with (or shortly before) the period and last for up to a few days. Secondary Dysmennorhoea is suspected if you have a change to the pattern / pain of your periods, abnormal bleeding or pain between periods.
