PMS can start 1 to 2: Weeks prior to your period.Pms symptoms can include pelvic/ abdominal cramping, nausea, bloating, weight gain, moodiness, irritability, pain ; swelling of breasts, feeling tired, insomnia, headaches, ^ acne, food cravings, ^ appetite, swelling of hands ; feet, dizziness, thinking less clearly, urinary sxs ; exacerbation of chronic conditions.

Not typically: Primary Dysmenorrhoea (painful periods) is fairly common and usually starts with (or shortly before) the period and last for up to a few days. Secondary Dysmennorhoea is suspected if you have a change to the pattern / pain of your periods, abnormal bleeding or pain between periods. See your Dr for review http://patient.info/health/period-pain-dysmenorrhoea. Ovulation pain may also be a factor
