A member asked:

Is there a link between bv and fish?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No.: Bacterial vaginosis develops when there is a shift in the bacterial flora of the vagina, most common organism that causes BV is gardnerella vaginalis. Patients with BV often complain of vaginal discharge with a 'malodorous fishy amine odor". On wet mount, BV will also produce a fishy smell when 10% KOH is added to the slide (+ whiff test).
