It shouldn't!: Unless you have recently had certain dental procedures, flossing properly should not cause your teeth or gums to hurt. Excess recession can expose the roots of your teeth causing temperature sensitivity, flossing, and/or brushing sensitivity. But this can be treated. Swollen and/or inflamed gums can cause discomfort upon flossing as well. Contact your dentist for suggestions.
