moles vs blackhead: A blackhead, or open comedo is a wide opening on the skin with a blackened mass of skin debris covering the opening. A comedo is a widened hair follicle which is filled with skin debris, bacteria and oil. Moles occur when cells in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin. These cells are called melanocytes, and they make the pigment that gives skin its natural color.
