Possibly: Since this germ responds so well to cheaper meds like ampicillin, there is little work looking at use of such an expensive broad spectrum antibiotic. Its broad beta lactam activity makes it likely effective, but there are strains of germs that selectively produce carbapenemase enzymes and inactivate the drug.
