Treatment: If you're sure it's herpes, it can be treated with anti-herpes medication (acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir), provided you start soon enough. The lesion will go away without treatment, but it may come back in the same place. If it comes back infrequently, you can just treat it when it happens. If it comes back frequently (several times a year), you can take daily therapy to prevent it.
