Osteoporosis risks: Yes, men can get osteoporosis. Most men have an advantage because they have a higher bone density then women to start so they usually develop osteoporosis later in life. It occurs more often in men who have low testosterone and low intake of calcium or who are on chronic steroid use or other medications to prevent rejection of a transplanted organ.

YES!: Yes, men can get osteoporosis. Men at increased risk are those who have been treated with certain medicines including steroids (prednisone) or medicines to treat prostate problems or cancer. Thin men or men with a family history are also at risk. Men can have the same testing as women to determine if they have osteoporosis, it is a simple xray test called a bone density or DEXA scan. Get tested!
