Very possible: A problem with correctly diagnosing this condition 100 -200-300 years ago was the technology available at the time. In addition, if we rad the history books on medicine, asthma as we know it today may have been called something else. Like tuberculosis and consumption. Asthma is not a result of industrialization though this certainly did not help.
