Unlikely: Recurrent lower extremity cellulitis is most commonly seen in patients with impaired lymphatic or venous return. Venous insufficiency, varicose veins, chronic edema, prior lymphatic or venous surgery or morbid obesity are the usual causes. Tinea pedis (athlete's foot) is often the entrance site for the causative staphylococcal or streptococcal bacterial cause of the infection.
