Typically No: Occasional usage of opioids typically is safe during pregnancy. There is always a risk to the baby, but usually early on in development. The big deal happens if you are continuously taking pain medications especially at higher doses. When you deliver your baby will be dependent on these opioids and could precipitate a withdrawal syndrome that might need to be monitored in the nicu.

Pain: See pain doctor in your area, there are other options: epidural steroid injections, physical therapy, non narcotic medications and proper diagnosis is also important
