Scoliosis: Short answer: uneven forces may cause higher pressure and degeneration in different parts of the disc.

Potentially: Degenerative disc disease is fairly common, affecting 30 percent of people by the age of 35 and 90 percent by age 60. Because the discs in a patient with scoliosis are loaded somewhat asymmetrically, it is felt they are at increased risk to degenerate compared to someone with a spine in normal alignment.
