Hope for help?: Schizoid personality disorder can be difficult, but not impossible to help with ongoing psychotherapy. If the person is truly willing to try new behaviors which may not feel natural at first, some progress can be made. Some do prefer solitude to interactions with others, though. It depends on what you really want for yourself, and how committed you are to change.

There is hope: "schizoid personality disorder" is a grab bag diagnostic category... The diagnosis alone doesn't really tell us much. The question is really what is going on with you. No, you don;t have to live like a hermit. Find a good psychotherapist who is willing to take the time to understand you and help you better understand yourself and how to become the best version of you that you can become.

Hermit: Schizoids don't believe they suffer from anything, and rarely show up in our consulting rooms because of it. Occasionally they will seek therapy because they are told by a parent, typically, that they need treatment, which is confusing to them for they are perfectly happy to be by themselves the overwhelming majority if the time. In such cases the therapy is more about the person who sent them.
