Will losing weight help my night time hypopnia?

No way to know: If you have nighttime hypopnia, i will assume you are being treated with cpap. After weight loss, this goes away in some people, but not all. You can hopefully expect some decrease in your CPAP pressure setting. Do not attempt weight loss in an attempt to avoid cpap. Losing weight is difficult with hypopnia because leptin and ghrelin, hormones that control weight get set on wt gain levels. See doc.

Usually: Nocturnal hypopnea/apnea can be due to body "habitus"=upper airway body parts compressing the airway space when the person lies on his/her back. If this is the hypopnea/apnea cause, weight loss sometimes significantly helps.Sometimes not, such as in cases of other anatomic issues (large tongue, narrow neck). In these cases, surgery is an option.Get a sleep study & work closely with the sleep doctor.
