Hormonal fluctuation: Any fluctuation in hormones, as can happen during menses, can cause migraines. During the later portion of the menstrual cycle, there is a change in the hormone levels, and this sudden change can trigger or worsen a migraine. You could try to take tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin in the last two days of your period to prevent the bad headaches.
