Back, hip or knee: Depending upon exact location and pattern, this may be nerve mediated pain from your back. (lumbar disc herniation for example). Disease of the hip or knee can also cause these symptoms. The treatment depends upon the underlying cause.

Pain starts in hip when pressure is placed, intense pain shoots down the side of my leg into my knee, down the rest of my leg and into my ankle.

Sharp pain in hip joint, hurts whenever moved in any direction. Occasionally pain shoots down the side of leg, never past the knee.
