Yes: What causes a menses (period) is the withdraw of progesterone which comes from ovulation. A birth control pills has progesterone in it. Therefore if you took a high enough dose of birth control after ovulation it will prevent your period from occurring. As soon as you stop the birth control you will have withdraw of the progesterone and will get your menses. This does not prevent pregnancy!
