A member asked:

Is there a connection between taking vitamin b12 and the risk of blood clots?

Yes: Vit b 12 is essential and safe vitamin in therapeutic doses, but excessive levels or deficiency may cause thrombosis of blood vessels and cause'clots'. In diabetics use of metaformin may interfere with Amino Acid homocystein metabolism and lowers B12 level and trigger vascular thrombosis, excessive levels may thicken the blood ( polycythemia) and may cause clotting.

No: It was thought that B12 supplementation would help to reduce elevated homocysteine levels and reduce the risk of arterial and venous clotting that can be associated with too much homocysteine. We now know that isn't the case. B12 should have no effect.
