See below: It probably takes a few days for all the chlamydia to be killed by the zithromax.  It would not be enough to treat pid, however.  You would need to take antibiotics that cover gram positive and gram negative and anaerobic bacteria.

Take as directed!!!: Always take your medications as directed. If you want to take your drugs in a different way, ask your prescribing doctor or dispensing pharmacist as s/he has responsibility for your care (along w/you). Yes, some antibiotics for chlamydia are taken multiple times throughout a day over several days but Azithromycin is intended as a one time dose for chlamydia.

Vaginal discharge: Your treatment for chlamydia should have resolved your infection if you did not have unprotected sex during treatment and your partner was also treated at the same time.  Women can have regular, natural vaginal discharge that can range from clear, mucous-like, to milky white (all normal).  If you are concerned or have any other symptoms (odor, itching, or burning), you may want to get rechecked.

Can be 1 dose: The treatment can be one large dose once or lower doses over 5 days but you should be sure your partner and all those involved have been treated before resuming sex and should still use condoms to prevent recurrences. Wait at least a week after treatment to be as safe as possible.
