White vinnegar: Excellent for cleaning dilute. 50/50 with water half hour soak. Rinse copius amounts of water.

New toothbrush: You need a new toothbrush. By the time you read this answer, the bristles will have passed into your intestines. Be careful next time.

Parasites: None that i know of. I have never heard or read an article showing that parasites live on toothbrushes with plastic bristles and handles  in rare cases fungus maybe. Be sure your brush can air dry daily and change when worn. If you are still worried run through dw or let sit in 1 part bleach and 3 parts water for 15 min then rinse well.

Yes, but?: Why would you want to? If it is that painful to brush your teeth that you would like to put orajel on your toothbrush then you may have some oral problems that need to be addressed. Best to see your dentist to make sure there is no pathology or disease in your mouth. If everything is fine then you can put orajel on your toothbrush if you desire, but put a fluoridated toothpaste on as well.

Soft toothbrush: The brand name of a toothbrush is not as important as making sure you use a soft toothbrush.  This is important to prevent wear and abrasion.

Yes: Orthodontic toothbrushes are specifically designed for patients with fixed braces. With that said, any toothbrush that is properly used will be adequate in cleaning your teeth and orthodontic appliances. In my office, after the braces are placed, detailed instructions of how to properly brush with braces on the teeth are given.

Yes and no.: It really depends on how you look at.  It is possible to brush your teeth as effectively as battery powered brushes, however, brushes like the sonicare do most of the work for you.  Plus, they can motivate you to brush more regularly than a with a standard toothbrush, which is always better in my book.

Smaller brush size: Toothbrushes come in different sizes. Smaller sizes are usually recommended for people with smaller mouths.

Bleach water: A simple and effective solution to disinfect your toothbrush would be a solution of water and bleach(10 to 1). You can simply put a capful of household bleach like clorox into a glass of water. You can't use it with any metallic surface or item due to corrosion.  Let it soak for an hour. Then rinse it off.
