: If you are not comfortable or unsure about the medication your Doctor prescribed then it is advisable to get a second opinion from a Psychiatrist after you have had a complete physical exam by your Primary Care Physician to rule out any underlying illness. Understand: Understand that Kava is a tranquilizer/sedative: it will make you sleepy. Added to your other meds you could be dopey and accident-prone. Do not drive or work around machinery if you use it.

Kava has been: associated with cases of liver damage. Don't recommend it.  I don't  know your medical history, but the safest route in general is to discuss herbals or supplements with your doctor.

See below.: It's great you decided to try less addictive ways to reduce your anxiety. Chamomile is probably the safest tea to help you relax. You may want to drink less if you  take aspirin or another blood thinner with it. Valerian is helpful for sleep and anxiety, but it may cause insomnia, upset stomach and irregular heart beat in some people. Kava has been linked with a few reports of liver disease.
