They may then determine topical treatment, antibiotics, or perform further evaluation of rectal lining.

Mucous?: Hi. What you describe sounds like mucous. No blood in it, right? Bloody mucous could be a sign of inflammatory bowel disease, and you would need to see a gastroenterologist. Mucous can be seen if you regularly have constipation. It wouldn't hurt to get a gastroenterologist's input. That's right up their alley. Get plenty of fiber in your diet. Good luck!

Sounds infectious: Happy to hear it was safe, but as described it sounds like you have some infectious process, possibly caused by a minor laceration that subsequently got infected, etc.  You need to get seen and evaluated to assess for a probable infection.  Best wishes.

Could be: It is not feasible to provide an opinion without examining you. Bleeding from hemorrhoids can cause anemia and ulceration of hemorrhoids could result in infection and that may have happened in your case.

See a GI doctor: And do this soon.  This can be infectious, inflammatory bowel disease, tumor, and so on and so on.  Go see somebody soon and be evaluated.  Hope this clears up quickly, but even if it does not you should undergo an evaluation and make sure there is nothing requiring intervention..
