Natural Process: When there is injury to our skin, inflammation occurs which means the area becomes red, warm, tender and with swelling.  The swelling occurs under the skin layers and then can leak out of an open wound.  The fluid contains water, protein, electrolytes and cells that give it color.  This is a natural process and aids in healing.  As it heals, the drainage will decrease.  Keep it covered.

May be full blown: Go to urgent care , you need culture from discharge followed by antibiotic treatment.

Sinus infection: A high temperature as you described is concerning for infection.  This may be seen with a streptococcal infection such as strep throat.  I recommend that you see a provider immediately.

i recently had my big toenail removed one week ago. i wash it, put neosporin, gauze, & bandaid on it. i noticed some yellow/drainage on the bandaid when i switched it out tonight. is that okay?

: It is common to have a little yellowish or even bloody drainage.  You are taking good care of your foot;  washing it gently and keeping soil out of it are key.  If it is red, painful or tender, please return to your podiatrist to check for infection.

had nose piercing for 1.5 years. caught it on towel and pulled it. now has a bump, swollen, red, yellow drainage. do i need abx?

Maybe: The nose is a fertile area for a variety of germs that feed on the mucus. Any piercing can become infected if the site is not fully healed or is traumatized.You might try applying hydrogen peroxide several times a day to he site. It can kill staph on contact without an antibiotic. If the redness increases see your doc.

i've had thick and runny and yellow drainage for 3 1/2 weeks, tried everything and it won't go away it's even hard to swallow is it a sinus infection?

Yes: A bacterial sinus infection usually takes 7-10 days to develop. Now that it has been 3.5 weeks, this sounds most likely to be an infection. You should see a doctor to be placed on an antibiotic for 7-10 days. It would be advised that you use nasal saline spray 2-3 times a day purchased over the counter and i like to recommend Mucinex (guaifenesin) taken twice daily for about a week to help thin the mucus.

Needs evaluation: This could be as simple as putrefied wax draining after getting wet or may represent a draining ear infection. Only an exam can tell for sure.

You may need to : Have it looked at first thing in the morning. Possible that he is suffering from allergies and so congested, that caused him to cough, increase pressure behind eardrums may have caused perforation of eardrum , thus the yellow drainage. Of course, it may just also be moist wax. Cannot tell without examining.
