Sorry to hear that: In my experience,  95% of women who self diagnose themselves with yeast are incorrect.  Unfortunately, many doctors will treat these infections (esp at first) with no exam, just symptoms. This causes the pt to always associate that sx like itch or discharge with yeast.   Especially, if you are having recurrence, see a doc, get a wet prep and or a culture to make sure.

Yes: Recurrent yeast infections can occur. Yeast infections are due to a fungus called candida which is normally found in the vagina. However, if there is a lack of healthy vaginal bacteria it can lead to overgrowth of yeast. Some causes of overgrowth: antibiotics, ^ estrogen (pregnancy or some birth control pills), malfunctioning immune system &  diabetes mellitus.

how do i clear up a chronic yeast infection? and if my husband has it will otc products work on him too? could we be passing it back and forth?

Confirm diagnosis: Need to make sure it is yeast infection and not irritant vulvitis.It is done by seing yeast on wet prep by your doctor or a culture.If it confirmed yeast, you need to rule out diabetes and oral contraceptive use, HIV infection, chronic antibiotic therapy.Butoconazole more effective, weekly rx with terazole may help, Diflucan (fluconazole) once a week may help.Your husband  can try terazole, yes you can be back;forth.

Needs investigation: I would want to know 'why' as well- there are some questions that need answering. For ex.-is this really yeast? How has your treatment been? (Has it been optimized?) Do you have any predisposing cause? (Such as diabetes, use of antibiotics or other medical issues?) Have you, as a patient, been educated properly on treatment and prevention? IUD, recurrent yeast: Incompletely treated yeast is a common cause. If you used one-day or 3-day treatments before, try a 7-day course next time.  Also, women will have intercourse more often after an IUD is placed, and that may lead to frequent yeast infections.  There is no proof that an IUD causes this, and this is not a reason to remove the IUD.  For unexplained frequent yeast, HIV test is a good idea to be safe.

Unlikely: At any rate , any viral infection can lower our body resistance to certain microbes and yeast is kind of opportunistic. You can try OTC preparation first, if it doesn't work, seek medical advice, good luck
