Doubt the diagnosis: I'm sorry. Poison ivy should be gone by now. Are you sure you don't have dermatitis herpetiformis or another skin disease?

Rapidly: One of prednisone's benefits is that in general it works rapidly like within 1-2 weeks.  There are times with certain diseases such as lupus or vasculitis where it might take longer, like 3-4 weeks.

No.: Corticosteroids are catabolic drugs, which means they enhance tissue breakdown.  Your pain might be eased, but you would be doing yourself harm for your exercise goals for whatever sporting activities you engage in.

Depends on cause: and diagnosis. If your question is that you have been taking Prednisone 60 mg for 12 days and still have swelling, I would have your doc re-evaluate you. If you have not started, then at 60 mg Prednisone IF it is going to work at all - should work relatively quickly- 1-2 days. Note you should probably taper OFF Prednisone at that dose for that long.

Shd not depend on it: Asthma tts have gotten very good and in most cases there are excellent inhalers that if used regularly control asthma very well .In this case you should see a pulmonary specialist.besides repeated courses of steroids can have many serious side effects.

Talk with your doc: It is quite possible that a lower dose of prednisone than prescribed is all you need to treat your asthma, but though you feel fine at the time of the lower dose it may not have been enough to resolve the inflammatory process that caused the attack.  That can result in a rebound attack more harmful than the original one.  Tell your doc what you've done, they will guide you on further care

after taking 40mg of prednisone at the start and tapering down to 4mg, i have gained a less flat stomach. should i start working out now or wait?

Not sure: It depends on why you're taking prednisone. For example if you're having an inflammatory bowel flare-up, it's probably a good idea to get well first before aggressively working out. Ask the doc who prescribed it.

Why?: Why is it inflamed? Trauma? Usually time and antiinflammatories will help heal it. Prednisone is also anti-inflammatory. Give it more time but would like to know why it is inflamed.
