why is my face so dry from having pink eye in one of my eyes? when will pink eye go away if it is bacterial? how do you know if its bacterial or a virus? the doctor just told me it is pink eye and nothing else.

Unknown/lab test: Peoples response to such infections vary. Viral ones come &amp; go based on the type of virus. Bacterial ones vary with the duration prior to treatment but generally respond within days with eye drops. The cumbersome &amp; pricey lab tests required to identify the virus or bacteria are rarely needed or done (except for research). Whether or not your skin is dry from the same issue is not clear.

: Warm compresses will help with relieving a sty.  If there is local broken blood vessel with bleeding on the white of the eye, this needs time to resolve.  If there is redness, oozing you may need antibiotic drops from your doctor.  Best to have this looked at by your doctor, someone who will be able to follow the results of any treatment.

Ineffective: It is possible that a bit of honey might make the eye temporarily more comfortable but the usual pink eye is a viral condition that must run its course and for which honey would be of no benefit.

Need more info: Is this pus, is it accompanied by burning, pain, redness, does it affect your vision.  It may simply be gel-like material helping to clear irritants from your eye or the material you wipe away after awaking from sleep.   If it gets worse or fails to clear, see your doctor.

"Pink eye": There are many causes for a red eye, including trauma, eye disease ( glaucoma, retinal detachment), allergies, and infection (bacterial or viral). Treatment depends on the cause and your primary care doctor can help you sort this out.  Over the counter allergy treatments are available, but most causes require Rx, intervention or observation.

my eyes are extremely red/itchy & have been this way for a week & 1/2. it's not pink eye/i tried drops for that & it didn't go away. what could it be?

Probable allergy: Sounds like you're having an allergic conjunctivitis. Try an over the counter antihistamine drop like zaditor (ketotifen).  If that doesn't help, see your ophthalmologist.
