Rarely.: Virtually all stones can be visualized by ct scanning, except for the very rare indinavir stone. Prior to the widespread use of ct, stones that do not show up on x-ray films, like uric acid stones, were called radiolucent. Ct scanning is much more sensitive for the detection of stones than an ultrasound, and it is unlikely that stone visible on ultrasound is not seen on ct.

Yes, depends on seve: If the blockage is complete &amp; urine backs up into the kidneys, you can get a condition called hydronephrosis. This can be detected on ultrasound due to the dilation of the ducts in the kidneys (like stepping on a garden hose- water backs up &amp; bulges). Ultrasound can miss a kidney stone due to its location or size; however, it can detect the *effects* of a kidney stone, by which diagnosis is made.

Ultrasound: Ultrasound is notoriously inaccurate for diagnosing renal and especially ureteral stones.  Would recommend you see a urologist and get a stone protocol ct scan.

Some may not: Some kidney stones may not show on ultrasound .If the stones are less than 3mm the ultrasound exam may not be able to detect in some cases
cat scan is the standard test used in us to diagnose kidney stones, but it does involve risk of radiation as compared to ultrasound.

Yes: As limited by resolution. Meaning a stone of and eighth of an inch may be difficult to see especially on ultrasound.

Possible: You might have passed it if you did not restrain the urine  , then bleeding will stop. drink plenty of fluids  Call your urologist , bleeding may be due to some other reason.

If a kidney: stone is tiny or doesn't have a high enough calcium content, or if it is obscured on xray due to superimposed bowel contents or other structures, it is possible that it would only be visible on US and not xray.  A CT scan would be more definitive when there is a discrepancy.

Both positive: The results of both the tests showed blood in urine and you have kidney stones which can cause blood in urine.
