No and yes with: some caveats.  Prior antibiotics do not cause treatment failure.  Ceftriaxone is the most reliable treatment except for some exceptions, i.e., multiply resistant strains.

Check with your doctor. Syphilis test could be negative early on in the illness.  Gonorrhea tests can also be negative even when you have the disease. It's not: Not effective at all.  Doxycyline treats chlamydia, not gonorrhea.

Gonorrhea: Gonorrhea may be treated with several types of antibiotics, among which is doxycycline.  If signs/symptoms do not lessen, get a culture repeated. Your physician may try another antibiotic.

Probably OK, but...: In addition to the shot of ceftriaxone, doxycycline was given both to increase reliability against gonorrhea and to treat for possible chlamydia, which is often present at the same time. Missing a few doses of doxy probably didn't harm anything. However, you should have been retested after 3-6 months. If that wasn't done, you should be tested now for both gonorrhea and chlamydia. i am living abroad. my doctor gave me a 1 gm dose of sporidex (cefalexin 250mg once) + 7day dose of doxycycline (100mg twice) for gonorrhea. is cefalexin 1g effective?

Yes it is.: The new cdc treatment guideline recommends combination therapy with Ceftriaxone 250 mg as a single intramuscular dose, plus either Azithromycin 1 g orally in a single dose or Doxycycline 100 mg orally twice daily for 7 days. So your treatment is fine.

Doxycylcine & STDs: Doxycycline is used to treat  chlamydia but does not treat gonorrhea.  Usually one only needs doxy for seven days for chlamydia.
