Swimmers ear requires a topical drop that can reach the inflamed surfaces.If the swimmers ear has worsened to include a skin cellulitis around the ear, Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) may treat this secondary problem.

It is treated with drops usually if it is confined to true canal bough if it extends to the lobe and becomes severe enough it may need to be treated with oral or even IV systemic medication.

Do not use it.: This class of medications is not approved for pediatric patients if safer antibiotics are available. A single oral dose of the fluoroqunalones may disable. Prescribing an ophthalmic preparation for otic (ear) purposes is inappropriate. The best treatment for swimmers ear is acidifying the ear canal to kill off the yeast and restore normal flora, like Domeboro solution, which is OTC.

Eustachian tube dysf: Try popping your ears but pinching your nose and blowing hard. Your ears should pop. Of not you should see your family doc and they can give you some Flonase (a nasal steroid) that can reduce the inflammation around the eustachian tube.  This will help the pressure feeling. For the external ear infections, try a few drops of alcohol  in the ear after showering or swimming. Good luck!
