Epipen (epinephrine): Can save your life.  Use it for asthma attack that doesn't respond to rescue inhaler or anything the causes facial swelling and shortness of breath.

Hives: The only reason to carry an Epipen (epinephrine) if you ever developed swelling of your mouth or discomfort in your throat when you hives were bad. It varies from individual to individual, consult with your doctor who knows you better then an online forum.

Probably not: Epi pen is used for patients who are experiencing anaphylaxis. In general, in a patient with asthma and asthma only, then epi pen would not be appropriate. Asthma patients should be using rescue and controller medications as appropriate.

Depends: Epi pens are used in people who experience severe allergic reactions. The source of the allergy is not really important. If the asthma attack is the direct result of the allergic reaction it may be beneficial. However, "epi" is a non-specific "agonist" whereas your rescue inhaler is specific for the receptors in your lungs and would probably work better with fewer side effects.

Different use: Epi pens are used in people with severe, lifethreatening allergic reactions. Epinephrine is also a non-specific drug in that it stimulates different areas of the body so that side effects are very common anad sometimes dangerous. The rescue inhalers like albuterol are specific for the "receptors" in the lungs and so have little side effects outside that area.

Yes: If your attack is that bad it may help until 911 arrives.You should never be without an inhaler and a face mask  as you may not be able to breathe in or even use a chamber if very anxious . Wear a bracelet too!

Sometimes: Many physicians who treat asthma avoid calling a child an asthmatic patient until they are about 5 years old. This is because viral infections may cause wheezing in younger children. Viral respiratory infections will not usually cause wheezing in adults or older children unless they have an underlying asthma problem. Many kids who wheeze before age 5 often appear to outgrow their "asthma".

Probably not: Unlike pool chlorine which is a  known trigger for asthmatics, at this time ozone has not been reported to cause any triggers. Interestingly, many highly trained, olympic level swimmers do suffer from asthma which has been related to constant exposure to pool chlorine. Ozone appears to be a safer, though more expensive alternative.

Probably not: Though there has been an association between young children using chronic inhaled steroids and achieving their max height, that association only accounts for a very small height reduction (maybe 1-2 cm). If this is not the scenario you are in, the answer is no.
