: No it shouldn't. Generally speaking fatty liver is very common and rarely causes liver damage. Fatty liver is reversed by changing your diet to a low fat diet and exercise to mobilize fat stores.

fatty liver was accidentally found out when an ultrasound was done for common bile duct stone. stone is now removed, i'm losing weight to tackle the fatty liver, but does fatty liver prevent the liver from recovering from bile duct obstruction?

: No, those 2 conditions are affecting different tissues of the liver and acute biliary obstruction due to stone does not cause residual damage once the obstruction is relieved. Please continue your best effort to lose weight by diet and exercise.

: Fatty liver will not interfere with recovery from surgery, but you need to attend to it by losing weight. Not easy to do by it is imperative to prevent further damage to the liver.

Gall bladder: Occasionally there is sludge in the gall bladder which causes symptoms and isn't noticeable on ultrasound,etc. Other possibilities include pathology of the bile ducts or dysfunction of the gall bladder.  If you experience upper abdominal discomfort after eating, fatty or greasy foods, consult a gastroenterologist for more testing. You may be referred to an abdominal surgeon for an opinion,also.

: Losing weight is not easy, but essential. You need to reduce your intake of food and increase physical activity, i.e. exercise,  Joining  a support group like weight watchers may help. Refrain from alcohol entirely.

Rare: Acute fatty liver of pregnancy is rare. It has an estimated incidence of 1 in 7000 to 1 in 20, 000 deliveries. It is more common in patients with multiple gestations and maybe in women who are underweight.
