Hard to say: If you have a soft tissue lesion anywhere that you have noticed, it bears observation. Lesions that are increasing in size, especially rapidly, or those associated with increasing pain, are concerns for malignancy. A painless mass which is constant in size, unchanging in appearance, and unchanged over time is likely benign. Lipomas are the most common soft tissue benign lesions; common and benign.

Strep ??: Usually we worry when a person has a sore throat caused by a particular type of a bug called Strep Pyogenes or group A beta hemolytic streptococcus. Did your doc check for this subtype of strep?  In addition, usually when someone is coughing that pretty much rules out strep throat. You were told you had flu. There is a 5 min test for Infl A and B. If + U can take good med within 72hrs of onset.

Pleuritic chest pain: Is what you are describing.  A common cause is a viral or bacterial  lung infection but here are other conditions that can be more serious. A lung infection is reason enough to seek medical attention.

Meanwhile warm...: It is possible that one might have started with viral infection complicated over time with bacterial infection. One might need to go back to see the Dr for antibiotics. Meanwhile warm salt water gargle after meals &amp; before bed + Paracetamol or Ibuprofen for the pain &amp; soreness can help. Vitamin C also helps the immune system.

Pressure of inhaling: Most likely you are inhaling harder than you ever did with a regular cigarette.  Inhalation works at the edge of the diaphragm, s lung muscle at the edge of the lower ribs just as you describe.
