Probably not: This pain may arise in the abdomial muscles. However, this might be a symptom of a hiatal hernia in which the upper portion of the stomach protrudes through the diaphragm into the chest.

Probably...: Pain is a warning sign, so your symptoms signal a problem.  How serious the problem and what organ(s) is(are) involved will be determined by appropriate medical evaluation--see your doctor. In the meantime, if you're taking nsaid's (aleve, advil)--discontinue them now, since you may be describing early signs of an ulcer and these drugs may be a contributant.

Many causes: Cause depends on location and type of pain. The causes of right sided abdominal pain are many. In upper abdomen, gall bladder, liver, stomach, small bowel, large bowel, and kidney can all contribute. Appendix symptoms are usually in the right lower quadrant of abdomen. The large bowel extends from right to left side and cause left sided pain. Kidney and pancreas may also be left sided. See doctor.
