pressure in head when i bend over to pick up young son. no fever or colored stuff coming out of nose. what else can this be besides a sinus infection?

Allergies or cold: Congestion  from allergies or a cold can also cause the symptoms.

my head feels ok when standing or sitting, but when i bend over forward, i get a sharp pain and pressure in the back of my head. what could be the cause? no fever or any other symptoms. i've tried a nerve block and imitrex which hasn't helped?

: I would recommend that you talk further with your doctor to get more history about your headache. The positional characteristics of the headache and the character of the headache being sharp could mean that the pressures inside of your central nervous system need to be evaluated by imaging of the brain and perhaps a neurology consultation.

Evaluation: You should see your doctor to be evaluated and have Ct of head to find the cause so be treated.

Sinus: The sudden discharge is likely from the mucus collected in your sinus draining when the head position is at a certain angle- we see this often in people doing sinus irrigation which left some saline in the sinus cavities. By itself, this is just inconvenient.  If the discharge is unilateral and a history of head trauma, will  need to check for fracture which can be serious.

when i bend over i sometimes have a funny smelling, clear, thin fluid pour from my nose upon standing back up. what else could this be besides csf?

Sinus fluid: sometimes,  you can remove a blockage of the sinuses with such an maneuver.  However, it is also possible that this maneuver changes the blood flow to the lining of the nasal cavity causes increased secretions.  I would go with the first one.

Reflux: This is probably gastroesophageal reflux, less likely achalasia, and you owe it to yourself to be seen.  We want to rule out a hiatus hernia or something else troublesome.

Rhinorrhea: I would be concerned about a CSF leak.  This can occur spontaneously, but it is rare.  I would see an ENT to be tested.  You might first be treated with a nasal spray.  If that works, it rules out a CSF leak.

why does clear fluid drain out of my nose when i bend over?

Accepted Answer

Rule out CSF.: You need to have a physician look at the roof of your nose with an endoscope or microscope to rule out cerebro-spinal fluid rhinorrhea. This is a potentially dangerous situation.  On the other hand, you could have nasal polyposis or allergic rhinitis.  GET A DIAGNOSIS.

Sinus drainage: Fluid leaking out of your nose when bending over usually is due to sinus drainage. One of your sinuses (maxillary, frontal, sphenoid, or ethmoid) is appropriately draining. This is normal as a blocked sinus will not drain and could lead to a sinus infection.

when i bend over and my head is hanging down, i drip out of my nose, just clear liquid, but every time. i can breathe fine. is this a sinus issue?

Sinus drip: Definitely could be a sinus issue -possibly related to head trauma. Does not sound allergic. You should see an ent.
