Many reasons: Some cold infections are caused by viruses that can also directly affect the eye. Usually the eye will be red or have discharge in that case. Colds can lead to inflammation of tissue around the eye, as well as sinus involvement, or blockage of the tear duct. This pressure can result in eye pain. If you have vision change, worse pain, nausea, you should have the eye pain evaluated.

Dehydration: It's possible you're experiencing some degree of dehydration with these symptoms. It's always good to increase fluid intake when you have a 'cold'. This serves to 'thin' the mucous AND prevents dehydration which can be a cause of headaches. Chicken soup, hot lemon tea, ginger ale or even water are all good choices. If fever develops or worsening pain, see a doc for proper diagnosis.

Steam, nasal saline : You can also take over-the-counter medications for pain (like tylenol, (acetaminophen) advil) and congestion (puedoephedrine).   You can also use nasal irrigation systems like a neti-pot.  Stay away from nasal decongestant sprays however.

See below.: During cough pressure in chest rises dramatically and pushes against blood that is trying to flow into the chest cavity and heart from the lower body and head.  Cough long and hard enough and flow drops to the point that heart does not have enough blood to push forward. Your brain starves a little for oxygen and sugar - therefore dizzy.  A little dehydration can make this much worse.

Viral infection : Rest is what you need with plenty of fluids so postpone your test.
