Some do: Most are innies but some are outies. The kids doc can look at it during a checkup and decide if it is an issue.For most it is just a novelty.

Umbilical Hernia: It is most likely that he has an umbilical hernia. His family doctor can diagnose this and get him to the right surgeon to repair it.

Umbilical hernia?: Most likely it is an umbilical hernia.  If he is a baby it is very common and may improve by itself. Otherwise the only way ro repair them is with surgery. In any case show it to the pediatrician.

i had my appendix out almost 2yrs ago & i've got something hard sticking out of my belly button that hurts most the time what should i do?

Hernia likely: If you had a laparoscopic appendectomy (surgery via a small telescope), there will be a scar from an incision near the belly button. If this wound did not heal properly a hernia could have developed, this wound be a lump under the incision that is tender, may come and go, usually resolves when lying down, may enlarge in size. There could also be inflammation in the area which could cause a lump.

i tried to spread out my belly button to look deep inside and i saw a red thing sticking out of it. but it's deep at the bottom of my belly button. what is it? i don't think it hurts. is it connected to something?

Just a variant: Penile size and shape varies greatly.  Even the way it curves and points will vary.  The size and shape does change over time depending on chronic manipulation (masturbation, pumps, etc.).

Funny is: That is where your mom use to feed you through the umbilical cord. Make sure there is no injury, you should be fine!

Evaluation : This area is prone to infection and should be evaluated by your pediatrician. Monitor temperature and report the readings to your pediatrician. Watch for rash, poor feeding and lethargy.

Bloated: Sounds like you are describing an umbilical hernia as bloating in response to eating. Some evaluation into the cause of your bloating is warranted such as food intolerance (lactose, etc). Also if the hernia is bothersome you can consider surgical repair.

Sounds : Sounds like an umbilical hernia which is seen in 10-20% of infants.  This is caused by a small hole in the abdominal muscles through which the intestines push through.  It may look and feel strange, but for the most part this is completely harmless and most of them go away by the time the baby is 1 year old.  Call your child's doctor if it becomes hard or red or if you are unable to push it back through the hole.
