Infection vs none: If it's a usual event and resolves with resolution of the period then it is not infection. It would be consistent with dysmenorrhea i.e. Pain during period due to irritation of the pelvic area due to a variety of reasons among which endometriosis, minute uterine lining tissue sitting outside/on the bladder area and gets irritated during the period where contraction of bladder will cause it to hurt.

Seek...: Short-term hurting in voiding right before period has happened to some women and they've borne with it because of its being predictably brief and light. Why does that occur? Some thought it may result from sensitized urethral mucosa by hormonal change among some individuals, but just speculation. Lately, some are known to be connected with possible endometriosis. But, how far does one need to go?

Irregular periods are one of the most common problems Obgyns treat.: If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  there are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Please see a Dr.: This may not be serious but you could have a bladder infection (which is common after sex) or, more seriously, a sexually-transmitted disease like gonorrhea or chlamydia. These are not uncommon and you're at risk if your partner is not using a condom (yes,it's a drag, but important and reduces risk of pregnancy). Doctor Exam Cystitis: Your hormones change during your period.  You may also have a low grade urinary tract infection.  I would recommend a doctor visit to include a pelvic exam and urine culture to start.  This is the fastest way to get feeling better.

Cystitis: Probably a bladder infection, acute cystitis. Typically responds to 3 days of appropriate antibiotic. See your Dr today. Meanwhile drink large amounts of water to flush the urinary tract with dilute urine.
