why do women have to go on bed rest in pregnancy?

Lots of reasons: Patients experiencing a normal pregnancy can stay active and do not need to be on bedrest. Some complications require bedrest. Some complications include preterm labor, ruptured membranes (water broken), a short cervix, a dilated cervix, high blood pressure, placenta problems and vaginal bleeding.

i have  monochorionic diamniotic preganancy. usually at which week chances for delivery?. my doctor asked to me to take complete bed rest.

Unsure: The average gestational age for twin deliveries is 36 weeks.  Your pregnancy should be monitored more closely because of the twins and especially due to the shared chorion.  You should consider a second opinion in relation to the bed rest recommendation as current studies would not support that recommendation.  Good luck with your twins.

i had curettage of uterus due to unwanted pregnancy. will i have to take same care like any woman who have delivered a baby? like bed rest and all..

No: You should take it easy until the effects of the anesthetic have resolved.  You should be able to do anything you want - any activity would be safe. The only usual restriction is the have nothing in the vagina for 2 weeks (no tampons, no douching, no sex).

: When the supervising OBGYN decides it is necessary. I have has Jazzercise instructors teach &amp; participate up to the week of delivery &amp; just take it easy for the last week. Events/symptoms that occur that threaten pre=term delivery or other health problem would lead to such restrictions. It would not be done in all pregnancies.

i am on bed rest for pregnancy complications.  is there a way to still exercise?

Wouldn’t. : You should listen to your doctor’s advice to the letter.  Bed rest likely means no exercise of any kind for now.

1st pregnancy was perfect was over due in fact. now i need to have cerclages every time. can't i just try bed rest instead? bad experience last time

Discuss with OB: If you are having cerclage for cervical incompetance and spontanwous abortion it is not likely that bed rest is going to be effective, but this is something best discussed with the doctor recommending and preforming the procedure.  If you do not trust them, get a second opinion.

Up to you: It's whenever you feel like getting up.  The historical thinking of prolonged bed rest has been replaced with a more active approach.

i had  iufd at 28th week in my first pregnancy april 2012. other than medication, should i follow bed rest for next time that im planning soon?

Not required.: Iufd at 28 weeks is rare and I am very sorry for your loss. The risk of recurrence depends on the specific cause - if any was determined in your case. Aspirin 80-81 mg may help, as will Folic Acid 1-5 mg daily preconceptionally and throughout pregnancy next time. Strict bedrest is not required in general and could increase your risk for dangerous clots in your veins. Seek maternal-fetal medicine!

my 1st pregnancy at 28 weeks i was effaced 90% 3/4 dilated put on bed rest. with this 2nd pregnancy will i be dilated faster and have the baby early?

Accepted Answer

Preterm birth: No you won't dilate faster with another pregnancy. If you delivered prematurely, you most likely will be counseled that use of a Progesterone injection given weekly will decrease your risk of another premature delivery. Bed rest doesn't prevent a premature delivery.

with my first pregnancy i had a placental ubruption at 6 months. will this happen again ? will i need to be on injections, or bed rest ? vbac ?

Accepted Answer

Previous placental: abruptio will definitely increase your risk of that happening again.  Talk to your OB GYN about what the risks are and what you can do to help maintain a healthy pregnancy.
