: You need a through evaluation with  MRI of back -may be sciatica, and blood work and other imaging to insure that not  a mass or autoimmune process. .  Go to ER today especially since there is new onset blurred vision.

Homework?: Shin splints are caused by inflammation of the periosteum of the tibia bone.  Symptons include pain, swelling, slight warmth to touch in the region of the inner lower shin. Rest ice compression elevation helps acute injury by decreasing additional stress/injury (rest) and by decreasing inflammation in the injured area.

Defense mechanism plays an important role in freudian psyhoanalytic teachings and dates from about 1913.  It has been parlayed into many other roles that have nothing to do with id, ego etc, but I do believe freud deserves most of the credit for our modern use of the term.
