why do my lungs feel heavy and sore and tight when i am standing up but normal when i'm lying down?

Heaviness: I don't think the discomfort emanates from your lungs, but would be more likely from the rib cage muscles that tense up while you're standing.and relax when you're lying down. Stress and tension may play a role. However if you're experiencing shortness of breath with exertion or have cough, wheezing or localized rib tenderness, see you physician for evaluation.

my lungs feel tight... like someone is squeezing them and it hurts when i breathe. it happens randomly throughout the day... what's wrong with me?

Possible anxiety?: Since you say that it happens randomly during the day, and you report no other symptoms, it may be anxiety related.  Recommend you see your doctor for a complete evaluation to rule out any other causes.

been to fam doc she said anxiety. im have a feeling of constant tking a breath 24/7 even when i wake up my lungs feel tight im breathing bc i im taking and working but im just wondering if anxiety really can do that? she listened to lungs and heart

Yes it can...: Don't feel shy to double back to your Dr if symptoms persist.  Anxiety can be associated with all sorts of somatic changes, and in my experience is an often under respected cause of unusual symptoms.   Try breathing exercises and/or meditation (look up a video online).   Reduce stress.   Exercise.  Makes a lot of sense to go talk to a mental health professional.  Help is out there.

See doc: Among other possibilities, asthma appears possible. See your doc for an exam and further tests as needed. Keep a log of symptoms, what brings them on, what helps, exercise helping or not and so on.

when i exercise, my chest gets really tight. i don't think this is an endurance problem. could this be a lung problem?

Possibly.: Chest tightness with exercise can be from a number of causes, the most serious being heart or lung problems.  If one experiences tightness, an immediate evaluation by your physician is warranted.  Exercise should be stopped until this evaluation occurs.

Yes: Chest tightness, shortness of breath, dry cough are considered classic symptoms of asthma. Please talk to your doctor regarding your symptoms.

Need more info: Go and see a doctor if this persists.  Cannot possibly diagnose over internet without an exam and possibly some imaging studies after a full history and physical exam.. Hope you feel better soon.

Stop smoking: The lungs are very delicate, used to extract oxygen from the air and transfer it to the blood. Filling them with soot is very harmful. 4 years of smoking isn't enough to result in cancer but within a few weeks if giving up smoking, the chest tightness and abnormal mucus should stop.

14 year old daughter came home from swim park with tightness in her lungs. could it be caused by chlorine exposure?

Chlorine in The Pool: can be in higher concentration. It is an irritant to skin (worsens eczema); respiratory tract: can cause cough, wheezing, shortness of breath; eye irritation, etc. In one study in England, chlorine in the pool triggers Asthma by six fold.
