my gums tingle and hurt after moderate exercise. is this normal and is there anyway to prevent this. thanks?

Not usually: doesn't sound normal but I can't determine what your level of exercise is. Any exertion that raises your heart rate is possible to be felt in areas that have a lot of vascularity but normally not in the oral cavity. I would suggest you get a good checkup with your dentist and especially check for signs of gum disease, which may include puffy gums, bleeding upon brushing, and sensitive teeth.

Temporal arteritis?: Until proved otherwise. It can happen at your age. I suspect there is a different explanation, but a visit to your physician is in order. The tenderness and the pain on chewing ("jaw claudication") will be familiar to all healthtap physicians as warnings.

See below: In the early stage of gingivitis, bacteria in plaque build up, causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed during tooth brushing.  When gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis. In a person with periodontitis, the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets. These small spaces between teeth and gums collect debris and can become infect.

Need prof cleaning: I suspect you have gums that aren't as healthy as they can be.  Healthy gums will not bleed nor be tender after any eating.  If you gums are inflammed to start with, then food will get more easily impacted into the gums and when you clean the gums with floss, it will bleed and be tender.  Get a good cleaning and exam by a dentist to eliminate advanced periodontal disease (which you might have).

More than 1: You may have more than 1 concurrent problem.  See your General Physician or a Dermatologist to review skin lesions.  See your General Dentist or Periodontist to evaluate gums for infection.  Don't expect magic healing, seek professional care.

Most dentists: I see - use a little topical anesthetic on a swab to numb the gum before injecting with a needle. That usually reduces the discomfort significantly.

Unsure of Question: I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. If your gums are growing back, that implies that they had previously been lost...Perhaps due to infection, trauma, surgery, etc? In any case, healing in the body anywhere usually doesn't hurt. It doesn't matter if it's a broken bone, a scratch on the skin, or unhealthy gums...Healing is usually comfortable. In fact, you usually don't even notice healing.
