i was eating some fries with ketchup and i dropped a dollar bill into the ketchup. i continued to eat the fried with the ketchup i was at baseball game. will i get sick? will i be okay. it freaked me out after i thought about it?

Accepted Answer

: I can't see where the event would cause a problem. You are surrounded by germs everywhere and you transfer them to your face mouth hourly when you touch it. Your immune system is accustomed to fending off minor exposures and has been since you likely  ate bugs as a toddler.  I would not over think this.

Allergic symptoms: Symptoms of food allergies can range from itching of the lips, tongue, palate or throat to GI upset with nausea, vomiting, cramping, bloating, or diarrhea, to headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, itchy eyes, puffy eyes, itchy ears, itchy skin, hives, rashes, to cough, asthma, flushing, shock or rarely, joint pains. One could be tested to components like tomato, or do a prick test w/the food.

Acid Irritation: The acidity of the ketchup and bbq sauce may be irritating your tongue.  The same benign virus that causes cold sores (hsv-1) can often cause small ulcers on the tongue, and if they are present, foods like those mentioned can irritate you.

i just threw up in my trash can after i got done eating fries it looked like grease (you cook with) and ketchup?

Accepted Answer

Might: Did you put ketchup on the fries? Was there any repeat of the red material that you saw such as vomiting again? The  material that looked like grease may be mucous of the stomach. If you have not thrown up again or  have not passed bloody or tarry stools I would not worry. If you have continued abdominal pain, see your doctor  very soon.

my daughter seems to have a ketchup allergy?  ever heard of that?

Accepted Answer

Corn, tomato in it: I have seen people react to ketchup because they had a tomato reaction or because they had a corn allergy. For the corn allergy, there are now ketchups available free of high fructose corn syrup, and I have seen eating those help. If tomato is the problem, a different flavoring will have to be selected. Other ingredients can also cause the problem.You can figure out which one by testing if lucky.

could ingested ketchup appear red on toilet paper & rest of bm be of normal color & consistency?

: It shouldn't. Red on TP could be blood, and if so, it should be evaluated. Please see a gastroenterologist.

husband was diagnosed with barrett's esophagus. was told not to eat spicy or citrus foods. he eats ketchup on everything at every meal. problem?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The nih have identified tomatoes, tomato products and citrus fruits as major offenders. Avoid oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, pineapples, tomatoes, tomato sauce, salsa, chili, pizza, chocolate, garlic and onions, broccoli, coffee, alcohol. Also loose weight to a bmi of less than 28, avoid tight cloths, try eating 6 smaller meals a day. Good luck.

very small amount of stringyish red stuff in poop..it was very less..i had a lot of ketchup in day before yesterdays dinner..could it be the ketchup?

Not the ketchup.: Ketchup would most likely have been completely digested and would not be visible in the stool as stringy red material.  I will bet that it will resolve completely on its own, but if it persists, and If it appears to be blood,  I would discuss it with your primary care doctor. Good luck.

my fever went away but im stuck with a lingering smell of ammonia like. every time i try to eat sauce like ketchup the smell gets worse and it hurts?

Accepted Answer

Smell: Probably parosmia, i.e. smell distortion from damaged olfactory tissue. Could try saline irrigations or short flonase treatment (2-3 weeks). No smoking

i noticed that a part of my stool was reddish orange? is it blood or food coloring? haven't seen this in the past couple days and i ate heinz ketchup yesterday and also ate tikka masala 2 days ago?

: Food dyes can discolor stool. If you have any concern you should get your stool tested for blood. You can buy a kit at your local pharmacy and test it yourself or send it to a laboratory.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
