ive got a sore ear but its only really sore when i chew and when i move my jaw to the side. i have taken ear drops but its not working. ?

May not be ear: You can have transferred pain that originates in your jaw joint on that side but is sensed in the ear. It is one of the quirks in how we are wired. You might try some scheduled ibuprofen for a few days . If you tap your jaw joint sometimes you can recreate the ear pain when this is the case. Your doc can also sort this out.

Purpose of retainer: A retainer is usually designed only to hold your final tooth positions after braces and should not move your jaw.  I suggest you discuss what you are feeling with your orthodontist to see if your retainer was designed specially for your treatment.
