I don't know.: Medical history, X-ray and physical exam normally  can rule in or rule out a fracture &amp; provide an accurate diagnosis.

A bruise?: If you injured the area recently, it probably is a bruise. If not, you really need to have someone look at it in person and give you a precise diagnosis. Or at the very least, send us a photo.

Usually not: usually not serious .If you have a lot of pain or any loss of use these would be signs of a more serious problem that need s a doctor evaluation

More info needed: Thanks for your question!  It's possible you may have done some damage to the deeper structures. You would benefit from clinical assessment by your doc if your symptoms don't improve.

Finger pain: Try some over the counter Naproxen 500 mg two times a day with meals if you have no allergy to this medication.  If you don, t get relief in one week see you family doctor.

X ray: A simple bruise should not take this long to heal. Get an X Ray done to rule out an underlying fracture.

Need exam and x-ray: Possibilities include fracture, sprain of ligaments, partial or complete detachment of a ligament etc. It's important to be examined by a physician to see if there is any evidence for joint instability.  Some injuries to the finger can result in a deformity if not treated properly.
