Saliva is good: Strings of saliva? Saliva in the mouth is a good thing... If it is "stringy" it may be that you are dehydrated. If you notice... Try increasing hydration. Acid reflux can also change the consistency of saliva in your throat and make it thick.

Seriously?: Are you really a 46 year-old from New York City? I don't think so with a question like this. Why do you want to get rid of the saliva in your mouth? Saliva belongs in your mouth. It performs many important roles. Without saliva, you cannot begin to digest your food, and you will lose all of your teeth, among other things. This question doesn't make any sense at all.

Excess Saliva: Could it be the toothpaste or mouthwash you are using before you go to bed? Do you have any special snacks a few hours before bedtime? Do you watch food commercials on tv right before bedtime? I am not sure if there is a medical reason for this, so consider the above and if no improvement please discuss with your medical doctor.

Usually a temporary : Normal condition probably will go back to normal, but there are some conditions that should have medical attention. Cat bite needs eval: I would recommend that your girlfriend get evaluated for this cat bite - because almost 80% of them can become infected (the sharp, long teeth of the cat make for good puncture wounds). There is no risk for rabies here - if that's what you were asking about - since SHE doesn't have rabies. However, more information is needed-so it's best to go to the doctor's office.

Prob?: Not sure that you really have one.  Saliva is your best friend when it comes to preventing decay and keeping a healthy mouth.  You may just not be swallowing it like normal.  There is a slight chance that you could have an issue with one or more of you salivary glands and it doesn't hurt to have it checked out so see your dentist if you cont to have concerns.
