Alcohol can cause: Hypoglycemia if you drink and don't eat for a prolonged period of time. Otherwise, no one, except those on diabetes meds, has hypoglycemia -- unless you have end stage cancer, liver or kidney disease, etc. If you drink too much chronically you can poison your liver's ability to make glucose. If overweight, you may think your body's return to normal glucose is hypoglycemia, but it's not.

Hypoglycemia: Even for those without hyperinsulinism, alcohol is well-known for the side effect of causing hypoglycemia.  You should discuss with your doctor relative to how this might affect you personally.

It can: Alcohol can raise your sugar and then drop it suddenly, particularly if you drink and then don't eat for a number of hours. Alcohol should always be with means and in moderation. It can also affect some medication. Check/wyour pharmacist.

Metabolic swings: Alcohol can drive metabolic swings that cause your body to over produce insulin, which will then cause low blood sugars a few hours later. Decrease or stop alcohol, eat smaller more frequent meals, cut out high fat, fast carbohydrates. Okay to check in with your doc for a glucose tolerance test and nutrition consult. Be well.

Most : Most urine monitoring tests for alcohol are based upon detection of ethylglucuronide (etg), which reportedly reveals alcohol use up to three-and-a-half days from the time of the urine collection.   It is used to monitor alcohol consumption in individuals who are legally prohibited from drinking alcohol by the justice system or restricted from drinking by their employers.  However the test is controversial in that it may in fact, be too sensitive and led some to question the accuracy of the etg test with concern over the possibility of false positives

often individuals ingest alcohol innocently, this is called incidental alcohol exposure, from foods (including desserts) cooked with or containing alcoholic beverages, foods containing significant amounts of vanilla extract, wine vinegar, soy sauce, mouthwashes containing alcohol, over the counter medications including cough syrup, prescription drugs containing ethanol (caplets, elixirs, etc), â€œalcohol-freeâ€ beer and wine, skin exposure to ethanol where vapor can be inhaled, hand sanitizers containing high concentrations of ethanol, deodorant sprays, cosmetics, insecticides

substance abuse and mental health services administration's recommendation is: "currently, the use of an etg test in determining abstinence lacks sufficient proven specificity for use as primary or sole evidence that an individual prohibited from drinking, in a criminal justice or a regulatory compliance context, has truly been drinking.  Legal or disciplinary action based solely on a positive etg ... Is inappropriate and scientifically unsupportable at this time. These tests should currently be considered as potential valuable clinical tools, but their use in forensic settings is premature."

given that fermentation of orange juice or use of vanilla in the honey BUN may have contributed to the test result, i suspect that you will have grounds to question the validity of the test results.

EtOH & hypoglycemia: Drinking alcohol heavily while not eating, can block your liver from releasing needed glucose into your bloodstream.  This results in low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia.  It could be magnified in diabetic patients when their blood sugars are being driven down by hypoglycemic agents and/or insulin.

Good Q..: Most commonly seen with insulinoma....tumor in pancreas involving beta cells.  But more commonly it is a manifestation of pre diabetic state.....in your case PCOD. FHx of diabetes is common. Truncal obesity. Responds very well to metformin........

I just want your: Opinion. Do you want a  bad future of drugs and alcohol?  If not, would stay away from them entirely and introduce yourself to 12 step programs like alcoholics anonymous and narcotics anonymous.

Alcohol: Well i don't think it is going to help matters. Have you been treated for that cough? Do you know where it is coming from?
