Vague: I would consult the dr. That ordered your mri.  Can't just start prescribing meds without hopefully determining a source of your problem.  You might try warm water aerobics/baths/etc. Or stretching, but hard to make any educated advice without even knowing where the nerve pain is located.

Compassion: You need to have a compassionate primary care physician as people with chronic nerve pain have other problems which cannot always be treated by pain doctors. A good PCP can keep your healthy in many ways to lessen the overall pain. After that, see a Pain Management doctor for meds but also consider yoga, meditation, other modalities of treatment as medications alone are not the answer.

Your doc...: To start with, Marinol can be effective like mmj for nausea and to stimulate appetite, but it usually doesn't help that much with nerve pain. I would stick with mmj if it helps you. If you really want to try marinol, go to the doc who wrote that mmj would help you when you obtained your mmj card. Any md can write for marinol.

for awhile now, i have been having pain in the groin and the top of the quads when sitting (feels like nerve pain). now i also notice pain on the outside hip area as well to. is this a hip issue pressing on a nerve? what type of dr would i see?

Stopping Elavil (amitriptyline) suddenly can give you significant adverse reactions which may include irritability, agitation, sleep disturbance, flu-like symptoms and, rarely, cardiac arrhythmia and should be tapered down with the supervision of the doctor prescribing this medication.
