Not usually: Spotting is a very common problem. Infections, hormonal changes, weight changes, stress and other causes are common. Ovarian cysts are also very common. Although both can be present at the same time ovarian cysts are not really a direct cause of vaginal spotting. See an Obgyn who can evaluate your irregular bleeding and evaluate to see if you have a cyst

Not long: It should not last more than several days typically.  Sometimes, your ovarian cycle is interrupted by surgery and your next period may come sooner or delayed.

Yes: Your periods will usually be light on the pill. It is perfectly normal. It is possible some months just to spot or even have no period at all. Of course, if you have no period at all, get a pregnancy test just to make sure you're not pregnant.

Maybe: Ovarian physiological cysts that rupture often produce spotting and irregular menstrual type bleeding. A repeat ultrasound can help clarify your situation by the previous MD who made the diagnosis.

Possibly: Intermittent obstruction of the bowel by an adhesion, internal hernia, or intussusception. Figuring this out can be hard and there is no guarantee the cause will ever be found. You have to decide whether this is an issue worth pursuing. If so, a ct scan when you are having the pain may be useful.

now i have these dark round spots developing on my hips. should i be worried? are they connected?

Polycystic ovarian : syndrome can cause lots of ovarian cyst issues, benign in nature. It can be linked indirectly with skin pigment hormone changes, and related darkening.  Testing and evaluation with your doctor, can allow a good treatment plan to develop.
