have this white ring around my lips. when i moisturise its not noticeable. but when its dry u can see and when selfies r taken you can see the white ring.been suffering with this for years and cannot get diagnosis.causes discomfort around lips too?

: Have you seen a dermatologist? A dermatologist, or skin doctor, should be able to diagnose the problem and then treat it. It is difficult to know what it is without seeing it so see a dermatologist. Best of luck to you!!

: A picture would be incredibly helpful.  In the meantime, I would stop using anything other than petroleum jelly on your lips - absolutely nothing containing flavors, preservatives, propolis, lanolin, or other potential allergens. Be sure to **liberally** apply petroleum jelly nightly to help protect the skin from moisture.  And then I would do everything in your power to avoid licking your lips.

Dry lips: It is hard to say without some more history but it could be a dermatitis, or allergic reaction, lip moisturizers and some foods contain fillers that help hold them together, like carrageenan, which could be responsible for the reaction. Excessive licking of the lips can also be a couse but seen more in children. Red light therapy may be helpful or seeing an allergist or iridologist could help.

Dryness: Licking your lips and letting them dry repeatedly can cause a red ring to form around the outside borders of your lips. Keep them moisturized and try not to lick them.

how can i reduce the swelling of my lip ring?

Accepted Answer

Natural process: Your lip ring placement caused trauma to the lip and it is a foreign body.  The immediate response is inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling). This is the body increasing the blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. Gentle cleansing, applying ice to the area and using antiinflammatory medications motrin.Advil (ibuprofen) will help.

See below: While there are diseases that are associated with facial coloring changes, they generally are persistent changes - as in lupus or dermatomyositis.  If you have no symptoms associated with the changes, I suggest bringing it to the attention of your physician at your next visit.

my medusa lip ring embedded a year ago and i want it out. what do i do?

: Typically, the places that put in the rings, are best equipped to take them out. Not sure what embedded means, but  if there is a more complicated procedure needed, you may need to seek a plastic surgeon to remove it without scarring.

have a lip ring that i can't take off. i can move it but i can't unscrew it. what do i need to do?

Go back: Can you go back to where you got the ring and have them remove it?  It may need to be snipped with very small precise plyers and they may have the appropriate tool.
